Options for sightseeing include walking along the waterfront taking in views of the Peace Bridge, which connects Buffalo to Canada; touring the Frank Lloyd Wright Darwin Martin House and Graycliff Mansion; the art museum on Elmwood Avenue with its works by Picasso and Warhol; the 398-foot art deco City Hall; cruising the Erie Canal; and boating under Niagara Falls on the Maid of the Mist.

None is separately incorporated — all are the City of Buffalo.
How old is Buffalo's housing stock?
Most of it predates the Second World War. The city was founded as a village in 1801 and incorporated as a city in 1832, and its neoclassical, beaux arts and art deco architecture dates from its early-20th-century industrial peak. Practically, that means the questions on a city house are usually the ones about a century-old building: knob-and-tube, plaster, slate and masonry.
How far is Buffalo from Canada and Niagara Falls?
Measured driving from the centre of the city: about seven minutes to the Peace Bridge into Canada and 31 minutes to Niagara Falls. The airport is about 22 minutes and Highmark Stadium about 24. Those are free-flow times from the Mapbox Directions API in September 2026 and will run longer at peak.
